A study prepared by Remstar International from warranty claims data and sales figures indicates that the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) for Remstar Vertical Carousels is 12,642 hours and Remstar Shuttle™ Vertical Lift Modules (VLM) is 5,856 hours. The Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) was 7.15 hours for the vertical carousel and 5.40 hours for the Shuttle VLM.
“These vertical storage and retrieval systems are often the focal point of industry manufacturing, distribution and warehousing operations. Doing these studies helps confirm the reliability these automated solutions offer in addition to improving throughput and employee productivity,” said Gary Gould, Remstar President.
“As part of our total customer satisfaction program, we run these types of studies periodically to determine if the mechanical operation of these automated storage and retrieval systems meets design intent,” said Timothy Robey, Remstar Vice President of Technology. “Our goal is to use this information to help us in component design so that we can continue to improve overall system reliability and reduce out-of-service time when repairs are needed. This also allows us to match customer application requirements and the proper automated system.”
Remstar vertical carousels provide high-density storage with quick access to parts via a system of vertically arranged rotating carrier shelves that bring the exact pick/store position to the operator. The Shuttle VLM is an enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, extraction platform and computerized controls for automated retrieval of stored materials.
