Restricted access is a method of creating accountability by allowing an operator to access ONLY the specific item needed. Access to an item is controlled by allowing the operator to being able to access ONLY the exact item by means of a physical barrier. The barrier can consist of a door, panel, flap, etc. that is opened ONLY when the operator has been directed to take that item. A lower level of restricted access is called controlled access.
Restricted access is often used to store consumables, specialty tools and general inventory. Used in manufacturing, maintenance repairs operations (MRO), and retail applications.
Reduces or eliminates labor by eliminating the need for a person to man a tool crib or parts area. Keeps parts at the work cell or counter and eliminate walk and search time. The high density nature of Remstar’s solutions saves up to 85% of floor space by maximizing otherwise wasted overhead space in comparison to drawers, cabinets and vending/dispensing type of machines.
The key decision is whether the facility or specific application requires restricted access or controlled access. Restricted access often comes with a higher cost (wasted floor space and higher acquisition costs), but if it makes good business sense it will easily cost justify. Evaluate both restricted and controlled to determine which one provides a higher return on investment to your facility.
