Pick & Toss (Place) Orders

Pick & Toss
What:

Pick & Toss or otherwise knows as Pick & Place is a system which operators pick items from a bulk storage container and toss (or place), them into individual totes or boxes to make an order.

Where:

This practice is done in any order picking operation. This is done while picking single orders. However, more frequently used to describe the picking process while batch picking. The opposite action of Picking & Placing is Bagging & Tagging which can be a value added process.

Why:

Helps to define the activities at a workstation. Picking and tossing or placing is usually “non-value added,” but is a necessity to complete split case picking activities.
